Pharmacy Supervisor

Reporting to the pharmacy Director the pharmacy technology supervisor would be responsible for taking lead on all pharmacy technology projects including:

  • Pyxis
  • Logistics
  • Cerner
  • Smart Pumps
  • IV workflow Prep

They would also be responsible for supervising pharmacy techs in charge of:

  • Pyxis/Logistics
  • Diversion/Audit oversight
  • Billing/charging/Coding

Department: Pharmacy

Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours a week required

Required: BS Degree, Licensed Registered Pharmacist (IL),

Pay: Based on experience, starting at $114,940.80

Responsibilities

Acts as an intra/inter departmental liaison to foster teamwork throughout the organization., Assists customers with inquiries, questions and concerns., Assists the Director of Pharmacy in assuring that all rules and guidelines put forth by the various legal and regulatory agencies (eg- State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Federal DEA, USP 797, USP 800, etc.) are met. Also assists in performing all necessary audits and maintaining records to meet these requirements., Assists the lead clinical pharmacist in all duties as needed and in their absence., Assists with installation and implementation of new services, procedures, and pharmacy automation products., Assumes a leadership role in training technicians and new pharmacists in order to insure quality pharmaceutical service. Supervises and verifies the work of technicians for accuracy and completeness., Assumes responsibility in maintaining an accurate formulary listing. Assures that all drugs are maintained accurately within the Cerner system libraries., Keeps the Director of Pharmacy informed of operational activities, needs and problems., Oversees Oncology Pharmacy staffing and departmental processes., Oversees students assigned to the pharmacy for job shadowing/rotation experiences. , Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned., Performs all supervisory functions related to Pharmacy Technicians including: supervising, conducting staff meetings, hiring, evaluations, and scheduling., Performs daily pharmacist duties as appropriate: interprets, prepares and checks patient medications, as ordered by physicians, accurately and in a timely manner. Accurately clarifies physician orders to insure that the prescription does not result in an improper dose or create another type of hazard if filled as prescribed. Monitors patient therapies for allergies, drug interactions and appropriateness. Accurately prepares admixtures (including IVs, irrigations, T.P.N. and cancer chemotherapeutic agents). Provides pertinent drug information to the medical and nursing staffs.
Instructs and educates patients on the proper use and effects of medication. Consistently enforces the drug formulary by contacting physicians on appropriate non-formulary orders. Performs all necessary functions of the pharmacy pharmacokinetics service.
, Performs nursing station and Pyxis inspections as assigned, submitting reports in a timely manner., Provides for appropriate and secure regulation and distribution of controlled substances., Shares operational responsibilities with Lead Clinical Pharmacist for the Pharmacy in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy.
