A Brief Overview
Supports Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in medication preparation and distribution activities. Assists Pharmacists with judgmental clinical work appropriate for academic experience achieved. Will provide services to patients from birth to death.

Education Qualifications

  • Accepted and enrolled as a P3 or P4 (Pharmacy School Year 3 or Year 4) at an accredited school of pharmacy. Required


Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years Completion of pharmacy school year 1 and year 2 will satisfy all work requirements. Required


Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent customer service skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. (Required proficiency)
  • Skills with spreadsheets, word processing, internet/e-mail, database software, contact management. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. (Required proficiency)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Must obtain Pharmacy Student Intern registration with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy.


What you will do

  • Properly use dispensing and bar coding technology to ensure accurate medication selection, stocking, and order fulfillment for all inpatient and clinic orders, batch fills and automated re-stocks.
  • Manipulate and re-package hazardous and non-hazardous dosage forms following procedure.
  • Specialized training & competency in hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding.
  • Provide support to pharmacists by answering telephone calls and responding to medication messages. Will include research of advanced clinical questions and drug information and drug compatibility questions. Student will be expected to function independently in in this support role.
  • Will undertake advanced clinical functions under pharmacist supervision up to level of education including but not limited to: • Renal dosing of medications • Administration of vaccines • Dosing of antibiotics (vancomycin, aminoglycosides) • Performing patient medication histories • Assisting pharmacists in the emergency medicine department • Provide patient education
  • Assist in maintaining environmental quality of Pharmacy per Infection Control standards.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation and process management of technological initiatives and pharmacy workflow improvements.
