GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Pharmacists in the preparation of medications.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The employee in this position assist the Pharmacist in the preparation of medications for dispensing, including, but not limited to, prepackaging, dispensing, verification of dispensing records, report preparation, and data entry. Extensive public and staff contact is involved. This position compiles information to prepare monthly pharmacy utilization reports, manages inventory, and orders stock.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks

• Prepares medications for dispensing.
• Prepackages medications prior to dispensing.
• Manages inventory by restocking shelves, monitoring inventory of drugs, preparing and pricing orders by specific program.
• Contacts vendors for prices and order changes, credits, returns, questions, and maintaining correct drug prices and inventory levels in computer database.
• Interacts with large numbers of staff and public, vendors and contracted service clients on a daily basis.
• Prepares monthly usage reports by program area and submits to the Director or Assistant.
• Completes patient information profiles for TB clients.
• Assists the Pharmacist in training part-time relief pharmacists, students, and new staff.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of drugs, dosage forms, and doses.
• Knowledge of Latin abbreviations and pharmaceutical calculations.
• Knowledge of drug utilization patterns, pricing structure, policies and procedures related to different program areas.
• Ability to demonstrate accuracy in pricing, ordering, restocking shelves, and reconciling invoices.
• Understanding of policies and procedures for County, Department, and program area.
• Knowledge and understanding of Federal and State Pharmacy Regulations.
• Excellent people skills.
• Extreme accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and one year of pharmacy related experience. This position requires that the candidate have and maintain certification as a CPhT with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and annual registration with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Physical Demands

An employee in this position must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, reaching, lifting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, talking, hearing, feeling, fingering, and repetitive motion. The employee must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions

Work consists of inside environmental conditions frequently in close quarters. No adverse environmental conditions.

May Require Driving

This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
