The Cleveland Clinic Department of Pharmacy aspires to be the world leader in pharmacy practice. As a Pharmacy Intern at Lutheran Hospital, you will develop knowledge and skills in pharmacy. You will gain hands-on experience through direct patient interactions, team collaboration and proper dosing training, preparing you for a bright and exciting future in healthcare.

A caregiver in this position will work either first or second shift between 6:45am to 3:15pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm including every fourth weekend on rotation during the school year. This is an intern role where caregivers will work full time during the summer and when able to during the school year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent, and resolve potential and actual drug related issues.
  • Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
  • Compound and prepare medications for delivery to patient care areas.
  • Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
  • Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy Program meeting education requirements to qualify for an Intern License in the State of Ohio OR international pharmacy experience meeting the requirements to qualify for the Foreign Graduate Pharmacy Intern License
  • Current State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) before hire

Preferred qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year or six-year accredited pharmacy program.
  • Advancing from P1 to P2 or P3 to P4 during the upcoming academic year.
  • Eligible to participate in a three-summer pharmacy internship program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform job while standing, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
