The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Endocrinology serves as a key member of the expanding Endocrinology Pharmacy Team, supporting endocrinology providers and, as needed, primary care services to meet the needs of a growing patient population. Practicing at the top of license through collaborative practice agreements, this role provides advanced clinical pharmacy services for complex endocrine conditions, including diabetes management, insulin titration and advanced therapy optimization. The specialist builds longitudinal relationships with patients through individual and group visits, both in person and virtual, and utilizes technology-forward tools such as continuous glucose monitoring interpretation and insulin pump management. Working closely with endocrinologists, pharmacists, primary care providers, diabetes educators and interdisciplinary care teams, this role delivers direct patient impact while supporting specialty clinics such as post-kidney transplant care and diabetes in pregnancy to optimize outcomes across endocrine care.
A caregiver in this role will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm with no weekend or holiday requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Routinely and continually provide pharmaceutical care for patients, considering their age and clinical condition.
Provide general and patient specific drug information to patients, physicians,nurses and, and other health care professionals.
Support Clinical Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by direct interaction and formal educational programs.
Maintainexpertisein areas of practice through continual learning, journalreviewand other educational activities.
Educate Clinical Pharmacists, Technicians, Pharmacy Students, Post-GraduateTraineesand other caregivers in Pharmacotherapywithin inthe specialty area.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
PharmD orBachelor’s Degree in Pharmacyfrom an accredited college of Pharmacy
Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within90 daysof hire
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within90 daysof hire (if administering immunizations)
Completion of a Post-Graduate Year 2 Residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a Post-Graduate Year 1 Residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area OR four years of experience as a Clinical Specialist or an equivalent role, including providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring for at least 50% of time in the specialty area
