Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Buyer manages pharmacy inventory to meet the needs of day-to-day operations, monitors, anticipates, and communicates drug shortages, and serves as a resource for other pharmacy staff. The Pharmacy Buyer uses critical thinking skills to solve problems, focuses on cost savings, pharmacy budget adherence, and utilizes excellent communication skills inside and outside the pharmacy department.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
6 months’ experience as Pharmacy Buyer or 2 years’ experience as a pharmacy technician preferred, but not required. Associate’s degree in finance or related field preferred but not required.
License/Certification/Credential:
Current Oklahoma Pharmacy Technician Permit in good standing or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages all aspects of daily medication orders from wholesaler and specialty orders through outside vendors.

Compile financial data including high-cost drug evaluations as directed by the Director of Pharmacy and present information in a professional manner to committees as needed

In coordination with another pharmacy employee, complete weekly controlled substance inventory, resolve all discrepancies in coordination with a pharmacist as needed, and report unresolved discrepancies to the Director of Pharmacy.

Works with pharmacy team to implement new strategies that improve operations and ensure cost containment including leading annual inventory.

Optimize inventory in the pharmacy and ancillary areas to avoid stockouts and reduce waste.
