Starting Wage DOE: $57.57 - 71.96
The Outpatient Pharmacist is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services in the outpatient pharmacy areas (community, specialty, LTC, etc). Work of the graduate pharmacist is conducted under the review and supervision of the registered pharmacist.
Essential Job Functions
•Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s and Pharmacy’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations.
•Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety, or job performance.
•Accurately reviews and verifies prescriptions. Clarifies questionable prescriptions, correctly documents all clinical interventions, and displays clinical judgement.
•Accurately, safely and properly prepares or supervises the preparation of all non-sterile compounded and reconstituted products.
•Controls the distribution of controlled substances and dangerous drugs as required by state and federal regulations.
•Assists in the training and orientation of new employees and students. Provides assistance, direction, and supervision of support of support staff.
•Actively manages inventory including daily medication orders, out of stock issues, substitutions, medication shortages and PAR levels.
•Proficient in use of and able to trouble shoot issues related to all pharmacy software systems.
•Acts as a drug information resource to healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers. Participates in the educational needs of all customers.
•Serves as a resource for pharmacy students, residents and technician students.
•Maintains competency in processing and trouble-shooting third-party adjudication and reconciliation.
•Participates in process improvement and identifies ways to improve processes and patient care.
•Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
•Participates in institutional and community efforts to promote public health and the practice of Pharmacy.
Additional Duties for Lead Outpatient Pharmacists
• Assists with upgrades and maintenance of pharmacy software system(s).
• Acts as a resource to pharmacy staff and responds to procedural questions and assists with problem resolution.
• Assists and supports management by providing leadership and direction to staff and coordinating the day to day operational activities. Serves as mentor and coach to staff as it relates to daily operational issues.
• Acts as a liaison for pharmacy staff to pharmacy leadership. To ensure supervision and availability to staff, regularly staffs in the area they are leading or specializing.
• Represents pharmacy leadership and makes appropriate recommendations in committees, meetings, and inter-disciplinary teams.
• Extensive knowledge of competencies, regulations, and overall understanding of pharmacy practice area. Extensive knowledge of departmental and organizational protocols and their impact on quality of care and financial stability. Extensive knowledge ythird-party payer practices and reimbursement/reconciliation guidelines.
• Assists with scheduling and flexing staff and coordinates emergency contingency staffing needs. May participate in and provide input/feedback into the interviewing, hiring, annual performance review, coaching/counseling and/or disciplinary processes.
• Orients new staff and provides ongoing mentoring, training, and educational needs for existing staff. Identifies areas needing additional education, training, etc. and assists with developing and conducting competency assessment and quality reviews of various technical aspects of the pharmacist or technician’s job. Develops and maintains staff on-boarding and orientation materials.
• Identifies and implements process improvement initiatives relating to patient care, services offered and financial viability.
• Investigates and responds to issues and/or complaints from staff and/or patients. Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
• Analyze and make recommendations for inventory management. Understand and analyze departmental budget and monthly finances.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Successful graduation from an accredited college of Pharmacy
Certifications and Licenses
• Current license as a pharmacist with the Montana State Board of Pharmacy
