Supervises and monitors the selection, utilization, dispensation and administration of all pharmaceuticals to the patients of Butler Memorial Hospital. Assures quality patient care by providing rational, accurate, and cost-effective drug therapy.


Education
Minimum:
Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy
Preferred:
Doctorate of Pharmacy
Registration/Certification/Licensure

Current PA Pharmacist License
Experience
Minimum:
Clinical rotation through educational program.
Preferred:
Six months experience in a hospital setting.

Exempt Essential Functions

Performs accurate and detailed work within specified time periods. Works cooperatively with health system and pharmacy staff to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Prioritizes work, resolves problems effectively, and provides timely responses to emergency requests. Responds appropriately to frequent interruptions and adapts to changes in workload and work schedule. Utilizes effective verbal and written communication techniques.

Provides accurate, efficient and appropriate pharmaceutical distribution services to patients by properly interpreting physicians’ drug orders and dispensing the appropriate medications utilizing the accepted departmental procedures for these activities.

Reviews patient medical and pharmaceutical records and monitors for efficient drug therapy, drug interaction, adverse drug reactions, contraindication, allergies, and sensitivities.

Monitors all patient drug therapy for cost effectiveness and communicates all possible cost saving recommendations to patients’ physician(s).

Maintains current knowledge of State and Federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances and investigational agents; and conducts personal practice in accordance with those requirements.

Disseminates drug information to the physicians, other health professionals, and the general public.

Maintains accurate records for federally controlled drugs such as narcotics, sedatives, and hypnotics.

Manufactures and compounds drugs, chemicals, sterile products and intravenous solutions including hyper alimentation solutions, antibiotics and chemotherapy.

Responsible for the proper storage of drugs in accordance with established procedures and methods.

Purchases medications, IV solutions, and supplies from designated suppliers to ensure adequate quantities are available. Receives, inspects and verifies incoming pharmacy supplies and stores accordingly.

Performs a monthly inspection of assigned patient areas.

Exhibits excellent service behaviors to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers; shows courtesy, personalized attention, compassion and timely responsiveness to both internal and external customers; shows initiative in raising standards and making continuous quality improvements.

Agrees to comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position and has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law or the standards of conduct to his or her immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Chief Executive Officer.
