Duties:
1. Provides technical expertise and relevant oversight to Civilian, Military, and Contract Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. Serves as subject matter expert and provides advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of pharmacy and administrative-related issues. Ensures that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to the pharmacy team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, and work products and services. Processes medication orders by using computerized order entry and extracting pertinent data from patient charts for consultation with patient, nurse, or physicians as needed.
Monitors patient drug therapy in patient’s medical record, pharmacy medication profile, appropriate laboratory data, medication administration records and/or through patient/family interview. Detects and reports adverse drug reactions. Identifies and effectively resolves drug order problems to include accuracy, proper indication/use, acceptable dosing range, dosing adjustment for hepatic/renal/immune system compromise, drug interactions, essential monitoring activities and allergy contraindication.Ensures that prescribing for all medications dispensed and issues conform to legal and hospital requirements. Prepares manufactured items, including cytotoxic drugs, parenteral nutrition, and intravenous admixtures, in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Prepares and dispenses prescriptions, special formulas, extemporaneous compounds, and special preparations for other therapeutics according to professional and military standards. Pharmacy materials/shipments may weigh up to 25 lbs. Resolves problems in the areas of biopharmaceutical effectiveness, including problems concerning solubility, stability, incompatibility, etc. Dispenses prescriptions showing due regard for the problems of drug disposition, interactions adverse reactions toxicity, dosage, formulation, and patient compliance.
Advises patients on the correct use of their medication with objective of maximizing patient compliance. Serves on committees and prepares presentations, presents, and provides follow-up to pharmacy-related committees. Educates and orients self and other staff members (pharmacists, medical staff, nurses, and other health professionals) to the operations and policies of the pharmacy department and current drug information. Participates in quality assurance and development or research work.
2. Initiate, execute, and complete Process Improvement Projects. Monitors and report on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the pharmacy leadership's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met. Maintains administrative and clinical reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and make available policies, procedures, and written instructions as a task or project supervisor; maintain current knowledge to answer questions from team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc.Prepares reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinate the preparation, presentation, and communication of work-related information to the pharmacy leadership. Oversees the administrative duties for the team as a task or project supervisor.
Represents the team in dealings with higher pharmacy leadership and departments throughout the hospital for the purposes of obtaining resources (e.g., computer hardware and software, pharmacy automation, dispensing equipment, etc.). Directly works with the Pharmacy's leadership team to work on major problems and issues to develop a solution. Reports to the pharmacy leadership periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs. Represents the pharmacy team consensus and convey the team's findings and recommendations in meetings and dealings with other team leaders, pharmacy leadership, the public and other customers on issues related to or that have an impact on the team's objectives, work products, and/or tasks.
3. Provides supervision assigned tasks and projects. Ensures the team working on tasks and projects has a high level of performance in accordance with evidence-based standards and safety protocols/initiatives. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others, such as formal grievances and appeals, to the appropriate management official. Develops goals, targets, timetables, and objectives for the Pharmacy team that align with the organization’s Mission and objectives. Identifies the need for changes in priorities or additional resources and communicates pharmacy recommendations to the pharmacy leadership. Identifies, distributes, and balances workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, and skill level. Makes adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product. Coordinates plans and schedules with other sections for efficient operations. Monitors work performed on relevant tasks and projects to ensure adherence to quality assurance requirements, administrative procedures, and general operating policies.

Basic Requirements for Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors. Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes preparing pharmaceuticals, providing medication counseling to patients, and providing pharmaceutical education to healthcare professionals

Basic Life Support (BLS) Required, BLS training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede Basic Life Support completion.
