Salary: $140,000 - $144,000 per year

Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Pharma / BioPharma Business Development Specialist to help grow market share and sales within pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical accounts across the Western U.S. territory. This role supports key Pharma/Biopharma market segments, including pharmaceutical companies, biopharmaceutical companies, CMOs, CROs, generic manufacturers, and biosimilar manufacturers. The position is responsible for a wide range of sales-related and technical functions, including customer demonstrations, installations, training, applications support, competitive analysis, and collaboration with regional sales teams.

JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Become the area expert in Pharma and BioPharma by maintaining a high level of technical proficiency related to the assigned market
  • Assist regional sales teams with customer visits, sales calls, product demonstrations, installations, training, and technical support
  • Identify, develop, and help close Pharma/Biopharma sales opportunities within the assigned territory
  • Develop demonstration strategies and product presentations for current and prospective customers
  • Gather, analyze, and report competitive information to management and marketing teams
  • Evaluate market needs and recommend hardware, software, application, or workflow solutions that support customer requirements
  • Support applications work, including customer sample analysis, to effectively position Shimadzu solutions
  • Help develop and deliver technical training and materials for customers and Shimadzu employees
  • Recommend product design changes and improvements based on market, customer, and application feedback
  • Travel significantly throughout the United States to support sales activity in pharmaceutical market segments
  • Monitor and implement short- and mid-term strategies and tactics to support sales forecast achievement
  • Understand market wants, needs, and future trends within Pharma/Biopharma and communicate those insights to corporate headquarters
  • Plan, coordinate, and present technical marketing presentations at conferences and trade shows
  • Foster and track collaborations with Key Opinion Leaders as part of the tactical business plan

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline required
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of chemistry, mass spectrometry, LCMS applications, analytical instrumentation, and laboratory workflows
  • Minimum of five years of laboratory experience required
  • At least two years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
  • Sales experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to build productive relationships with customers, regional sales teams, marketing, and internal technical partners
  • Ability to travel significantly by air or car to support customer needs and business objectives

Compensation & Benefits:

This full-time, exempt position comes with a comprehensive benefits package. In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 paid scheduled holidays and 3 paid floating holidays (Residents of California and Puerto Rico will receive state-mandated sick leave instead of personal days). After one year of employment, you will also be eligible for a generous short-term disability program with the company covering 100% of monthly premiums.

The starting salary range for this role is $140,000 to $144,000 annually, paid semi-monthly. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year-end bonus based on overall company performance.
