As a PH Environmental Health Specialist within the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Location: Pickens County Environmental Health Dept.- Jasper, GA

Examples of duties

  • Under supervision, candidate evaluates facilities and properties for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and performs work in the following program areas: On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
  • Respond to public health emergencies as requested. All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.
  • Responds to Environmental Health complaints.
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily for assigned work.
  • Position has physical demands—frequent standing, bending, squatting, walking, etc in various settings required. Includes year-round work both indoor and in outdoor climates. Occasional lifting of 25-40 lbs may be required.
  • Position requires proficiency in data entry of assigned work on department issued equipment.
  • Some overnight travel for training purposes may be required.
  • This is a salary position and based on a 40-hour work week, M-F 8am to 5pm

Qualifications

EHS 1: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours in laboratory sciences (i.e. biology, environmental science, chemistry, geology, physics)

EHS 2: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester hours or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and one (1) year of experience at the lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 1 (RCP120) or equivalent position.

Note: Any agency-specified certification/training that may be experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Please provide credentials)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science
  • Completion of Georgia DPH New EHS Training course(s)
  • CFSM Certificate
  • Communication or leadership coursework/program
  • Prior experience in customer service role

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
