The Department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a full-time Pfeiffer Postdoctoral Instructor position. The initial appointment will be for two academic years and may be renewed for a third year. The term of appointment will begin on July 1, 2027.
Pfeiffer Postdoctoral Instructors will teach undergraduate lecture courses each semester and conduct research in collaboration with a faculty mentor. The Pfeiffer Postdoctoral Instructor position honors Professor Paul Pfeiffer (1917-2012), a founding member of the Department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research (CMOR). Candidates are expected to pursue research that aligns with the department’s research programs, with interdisciplinary research and collaboration strongly encouraged.
About the Department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research
The Department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research offers an outstanding and collaborative research environment with world-class expertise in continuous optimization, numerical linear algebra, partial differential equations, inverse problems, and large-scale stochastic systems. The department’s core strengths span applied analysis, high-performance computing, numerical methods for differential equations, operations research, and optimization. Faculty apply these mathematical and computational strengths to important interdisciplinary challenges in areas including energy systems, medical imaging, neuroengineering, and climate modeling. Interdisciplinary research is a fundamental aspect of the department’s program, providing opportunities for postdoctoral instructors to collaborate with faculty across a broad range of mathematical, computational, and application areas.
