Westbrook Animal Hospital is a multi-doctor practice caring for companion animals and some exotic pets. We’re proud of our experienced support team and the collaborative environment we’ve built together.

We’re looking for a dependable, positive Kennel Assistant who is passionate about animal care and ready to jump into a physically active role. This position includes plenty of cleaning, hands-on care, and time spent making sure our furry—and sometimes feathered—guests are comfortable, safe, and well cared for.

What You’ll Do as a Kennel Assistant

  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, floors, common areas, and hospital grounds
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and boarding guests
  • Prepare meals and feed pets according to individual care instructions
  • Administer medications as directed
  • Wash dishes, litter pans, bedding, and other animal-care supplies
  • Complete laundry throughout the day
  • Assist with baths and basic grooming needs
  • Handle and care for dogs, cats, and occasional exotic pets safely and compassionately
  • Observe pets for changes in behavior or condition and communicate concerns to the veterinary team
  • Support teammates with additional hospital and animal-care tasks as needed

What You’ll Bring as a Kennel Assistant

  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Comfort working with dogs and cats of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Understanding that maintaining a safe animal-care environment involves a significant amount of cleaning
  • Ability to stay on your feet for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and remain physically active throughout your shift
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable attendance and dependable transportation
  • Availability for rotating evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
  • Previous animal-care experience is a plus, but not required
