Pest Management Technician I


Classification Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma and one (1) year of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Must meet the requirements of Chapters 482 and 487, Florida Statutes.


Job Description:

Perform daily functional duties that include (but are not limited to) responding to pest/trouble calls and pages, assessing the situation, creating a plan of action to solve the problem, working with different departments to collect data for specialty projects not controlled by conventional methods. Maintain pesticide inventory, monitor use patterns, and mix restricted use pesticides (as necessary).

Perform campus-wide pest control duties at assigned University of Florida (UF) facilities in compliance with state and federal law. Report progress and status of current projects to Pest Control Manager. Operate fumigation chamber services for museum and other UF clients. Communicate findings and recommend corrective actions to technicians, building managers, and Physical Plant Division (PPD) employees.

Visually inspect food and non-food areas for general household pest-prone (GHP) conditions. Comprehensively inspect for wood-destroying organisms (WDOs) in UF facilities. Schedule and conduct termite pretreatment for new construction and other specialty termite corrective treatments. Remove or relocate animals/vermin that pose a nuisance to UF and its patrons.

Assist in on the job and classroom training activities for Pest Management employees. Assist Pest Control Manager in special structural fumigation projects. Facilitate repairs and maintenance on specialty pesticide application equipment.

Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from service locations.

Perform other duties as assigned by Pest Management Coordinator

Criminal background check and Post-offer health assessment required.

Valid Florida driver license Required.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday through Friday, 07:00 AM to 04:00 PM
  • 40 hours per week
  • Travel to and from pest service locations


Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.


Required Qualifications:

Preferred:

EDUCATION & TRAINING: Certification as a Certified Pest Control Operator

EXPERIENCE: Experience with Microsoft Office computer program, including Word and Access KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the biology and identification of Florida’s structural and general household pests
  • Knowledge of current pest management practices and industry trends
  • Familiar with the maintenance and repair of pesticide application equipment SKILLS: None noted

ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively
