The role
If you are a reliable, compassionate and independent carer who would like to help us provide in home wellbeing support we’d love to hear from you.
This role is perfect for someone who loves caring for others and is looking for a stable, longer‑term role rather than casual shifts (up to 60 hours per fortnight or 1-2 shifts a week). You might be starting your career in caring or nursing, or looking for a caring role that can fit around other commitments.
The available shifts include as many or as few of the following as you like,
Mornings 8.30am to 12.30pm
Afternoons 12.30pm – 6pm
Weekends (overnight accommodation is available if needed) 6.30am – 8.30am or 5pm – 10pm
More specific duties include:
Assistance with personal cares within scope (no solo heavy lifts)
Supporting comfort, positioning, and wellbeing
Communication with family and existing care team
Providing calm, consistent presence in the home
About the family
We are a warm, friendly and social family who enjoy a good laugh and hearing a good story! We live on a farm in Stratford and have been heavily involved in the community throughout our lives.
You will be caring for an elderly woman with advanced Motor Neurone Disease (MND). She is non verbal but has various communication strategies and would love to have some company. We have agency carers who manage the more advanced personal cares so you don’t need that level of experience but the opportunity is available should you wish to.
About you
Because of the nature of this role, finding the right person is important. You will be reliable, calm, and sensitive to the needs of others. You will also be confident working in a complex home care environment, able to work independently, and comfortable being part of a wider care team.
Experience with MND, neurological conditions, or complex physical care would be helpful but is not essential.
Please apply online and include:
A brief outline of your care experience
Availability including whether you are available for live‑in or overnight shifts.
Any experience with MND, neurological, or complex physical care
Your location and transport situation
You need to be eligible to work in New Zealand and willing to undergo police checks, and provide references from previous personal carer positions.
