Job Description

The Role

Permanency Support Workers are vital members of the Permanency Support Program, reporting to the Team Leader and working collaboratively with Case Managers and Clinical staff to achieve safe, stable and sustainable permanent placements for children and young people.

In this role, you will work directly with children, young people, siblings, foster carers, birth families and significant others to strengthen placement stability and support positive outcomes.


This is a part-time position (minimum 30 hours per fortnight) and includes:

  • Face-to-face engagement with children and families
  • Practical in-home parenting support to build skills and confidence
  • Supporting family time and placement stability
  • Transporting clients when required
  • Providing support in home and community-based settings

Shifts will occur both within and outside core business hours, including critical transition times in the afternoon and evening. Availability on Saturdays is essential.

About You

You are a compassionate and resilient professional who is committed to supporting children, young people and families within a child protection framework. You understand the importance of safe, stable placements and bring both practical skills and a collaborative approach to your work.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Certificate IV in Community Services (or working towards), a social work related qualification, or relevant demonstrated experience.
  • Knowledge of the indicators of child abuse and a willingness to work within a legislated child protection environment
  • A current ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and/or NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) as required
  • A Full Unrestricted Driver’s Licence (P1/P2 may be negotiated)
  • Eligibility to be added to the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) Residential Care Workers Register (RCWR) at the time of reference check
  • A satisfactory National Criminal History Check outcome and driving history

Please note:Successful applicants will be required to provide a current National Criminal History Check with a satisfactory outcome and provide a driving history check (all years) prior to commencement.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
