
The Perioperative Scheduler performs a variety of complex duties in collaboration with medical office personnel, surgeons, hospital staff and patients. The Scheduler arranges operative and/or invasive procedural appointments for multiple hospital departments carefully coordinating services to ensure timely access to care.
Education
Some additional training beyond high school, but less than an Associates Degree.
Certification, Registration & Licensure
None required.
Experience
One year medical office experience and/or training preferred. Experience with Medical and Surgical Terminology and automated scheduling systems required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to navigate in a Windows based environment.
Hours
Rotating shifts between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. No weekends, no major holidays.
Responsibilities
Schedules and coordinates surgical and invasive procedures with office personnel, surgeon and hospital
staff, as well as outside vendors as appropriate.
Compiles medical office information with departmental work sheets. Requests providers’ written orders
and consents for procedures scheduled.
Sets surgical case order per departmental guidelines.
Researches, analyzes and resolves problems to ensure responses to all inquiries from patients, internal
and external departments, offices and providers.
Makes recommendations and participates in departmental activities, performance improvement efforts
and quality assurance monitoring.
