Job Description

Christiana Care Health System is seeking a full-time PEP Coordinator for our Perioperative Evaluation/Prep Department. The PEP Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the patient's pre-admission/surgical evaluation in conjunction with anesthesia and attending physician to ensure quality anesthesia and surgical care. Predominately Day shift. The typical shift after orientation is DAY Shift-8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, occasionally but flexible with possible changes as the need arises by the department.

The position will be at Avenue North on site with orientation 7:30am-4pm and once orientation is complete the work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm shift

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs and documents pre-admission history of patients requiring anesthesia according to established criteria and unit specific standards.
•Based on surgery status and identified patient co-morbidities facilitates appropriate testing according to established guidelines.
•Reviews clinical documentation and communicates findings with anesthesia, leadership in the area of the procedure/surgery, and attending physician; revises plan of care as needed based on findings.
•Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed.
•Assesses patient/family learning needs/barriers and carries out teaching measures.
•Effectively responds to unit workload and adjusts workflow accordingly as outlined in unit specific standards.
•Establishes methods that support reciprocal communication between physician offices, patient registration, surgical scheduling, surgery and procedure unit, anesthesia provider and specialty service care managers.
•Demonstrates understanding and application of CCHS Core Values in daily work.
•Serves as an effective patient advocate when barriers impede progress and/or collaboration between practitioners involved in care is fragmented.
•Conducts patient education; collaborates with patient and family to establish realistic goals and activities to enhance patient self-management and participation in plan of care.
•Works in conjunction with specialty service care managers to anticipate the needs of the patient in developing a discharge plan.
•Uses theoretical and educational frameworks and expert clinical knowledge base to promote, develop and provide patient, family, staff and community education.
•Identifies system issues that serve as barriers to care; participates in development and implementation of strategies to remove barriers and promote resolution through coordination of a problem-solving process.
•Assumes responsibility for professional growth and is willing to share knowledge with co-workers and other caregivers,
•Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
•Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients or visitors.
•Supports the department in reaching the goal of contacting 100% of patients and maintains productivity thresholds set by department.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified applicants will possess a current RN license and the ability to practice in Delaware.

  • BSN required or commitment to obtaining within three years of date of hire can be considered with relevant experience.

  • Must also possess demonstrated work knowledge, skills, and abilities related to general surgical pre-operative evaluation of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • At least 3 years of required application experience. Pre-op and Post Op experience or critical care experience is strongly preferred.

  • BLS required

Hourly Pay Range: $38.22 - $61.16This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
