Perioperative Attendant II – Lorain Hospital

Shift/Schedule

  • Part Time - Scheduled for 40 Hours per week

  • Shift Times - Days/Afternoons (1st Shift)

  • No weekend, holiday, or on call availability is required

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Perioperative Attendant IIis responsible for assisting the clinical staff by performing a varietyof support functions that facilitate the delivery of surgical/procedural services to the patient working underthe guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.In addition to the duties of a Perioperative Attendant, the Perioperative II, under the surgeon's direct observation, may also provide direct assistanceduring procedures.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs all essential job functions of aPerioperative Attendant, including but not limited to, set-up of surgical suites, room turnover, patient positioningand transportationmanagementof equipment and positioning devices, stocking of supplies,running errands, POCT support, and maintenance of warming logs as needed based upon department design

  • Functions in the second scrub role, as assigned,demonstrating knowledge of sterile technique, and ability to maintaina sterile fieldas needed based upon department design

  • Able to perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving according to policyas needed based upon department design

  • Assists with setting up the operating room for cases and able to open sterile supplies and instruments and dispense to the sterile fieldUnder the direct observation of the surgeon, the PerioperativeAttendant II may hold retractors and/ or extremities

  • Demonstrates understanding of preference cards and gathering of supplies, instruments, and equipment. Picks cases according to the preference card lists; assists with case preparation under the guidance of the RN or other members of the surgical team.

  • Serves as a preceptor for new employees

  • If trained, able to clean and reprocess endo scopes and TEE scopes

  • Contributes to unit performance improvement and/or quality improvement activities

  • Takes call as required

Licensing/Certification

BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)

Education

High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Work Experience

One-yearperioperative experience as Perioperative Attendant (required)

Patient Population

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Infant (1-12 months)
  • Pediatrics (1-12 years)

  • Adults (18-64 years)
  • Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Working Conditions

  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
