Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and patient-focused Periodontist to join our growing dental organization. The Periodontist will provide comprehensive periodontal care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical and non-surgical management of conditions affecting the gums, supporting structures of the teeth, and oral tissues.
This is a clinical role within a 7-day-a-week dental organization. The successful candidate will provide exceptional periodontal care while working collaboratively with general dentists, oral surgeons, dental specialists, clinical teams, and office leadership to deliver a seamless patient experience.
Compensation
- 40% of collections
- Compensation is based on a flat rate of 40% of applicable collections.
- Additional details regarding compensation, scheduling, and expectations will be reviewed during the interview process.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Surgical Care
- Diagnose and treat periodontal and related oral conditions.
- Provide comprehensive periodontal treatment, including surgical and non-surgical procedures.
- Perform procedures including, but not limited to:
- Crown lengthening
- Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty
- Osseous surgery
- Soft tissue grafting
- Gum recession treatment
- Bone grafting and regenerative procedures
- Guided tissue regeneration
- Ridge preservation and site development
- Other procedures within the provider's training, credentials, and scope of practice
- Evaluate patients referred by general dentists and other specialists.
- Develop appropriate periodontal treatment plans based on clinical findings, diagnostic imaging, periodontal charting, and patient needs.
- Review X-rays, CBCT/3D imaging, and other diagnostic information as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Manage surgical complications and provide appropriate follow-up care.
- Provide emergency periodontal care when clinically appropriate.
Patient Care & Experience
- Provide compassionate, professional, and patient-centered periodontal care.
- Clearly explain diagnoses, treatment recommendations, procedures, risks, benefits, alternatives, and expected outcomes.
- Educate patients regarding periodontal health, treatment options, oral hygiene, and long-term maintenance.
- Help patients understand the connection between periodontal health and overall oral health.
- Maintain excellent communication with patients, families, and referring providers.
- Deliver a high standard of care while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
Collaboration & Referring Providers
- Work closely with general dentists, oral surgeons, endodontists, prosthodontists, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain strong relationships with referring dentists and dental teams.
- Communicate treatment recommendations, surgical findings, and follow-up needs with referring providers.
- Support appropriate internal referrals and collaborative case planning.
- Participate in case discussions when complex treatment requires multidisciplinary coordination.
Clinical Standards & Compliance
- Maintain the highest standards of periodontal care, patient safety, and infection control.
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing periodontal and dental care.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely clinical documentation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy regulations.
- Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and registrations.
- Maintain appropriate malpractice coverage as required by the organization.
- Stay current with advances in periodontics, implant dentistry, regenerative procedures, technology, materials, and evidence-based practices.
Teamwork & Practice Support
- Work collaboratively with dental assistants, hygienists, general dentists, specialists, and administrative teams.
- Provide appropriate clinical direction to periodontal assistants and support staff.
- Promote a professional, respectful, and team-oriented clinical environment.
- Help ensure periodontal appointments and procedures are performed efficiently while maintaining quality and patient safety.
- Support practice initiatives designed to improve specialty access, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.
- Assist in educating and training team members regarding periodontal procedures, patient care, and referral opportunities when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
- Completion of an accredited Periodontics residency program.
- Current and unrestricted dental license in the state of practice.
- Appropriate controlled-substance registration, as applicable.
- Current CPR/BLS certification and any additional certifications required for the position.
- Appropriate credentials and experience for the periodontal and surgical procedures being performed.
- Strong clinical and surgical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong treatment-planning and diagnostic abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-provider dental environment.
- Experience with dental implants, periodontal surgery, soft tissue grafting, bone grafting, and regenerative procedures preferred.
Schedule & Availability
We are a 7-day-a-week dental business, and our specialists are expected to support patient access throughout the week.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Holiday availability is required.
- Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on patient demand and business needs.
- Flexibility in scheduling is important to support specialty access and patient needs.
