The Clinical Nurse Mentor is an experienced Registered Nurse who inspires, coaches, and develops new nurses as they transition from novice to confident, competent clinicians. Serving as both a clinical expert and bedside mentor, this role provides real-time coaching, role modeling, and competency validation while promoting evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and exceptional patient care.

Working side-by-side with novice nurses in the clinical setting, the Clinical Nurse Mentor guides professional growth through assessment, education, feedback, and hands-on support. This position functions in the full capacity of a bedside Registered Nurse while creating a positive learning environment that strengthens confidence, competence, and team success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor, coach, and support new nurses through daily bedside learning and role modeling.
  • Assess clinical competencies and develop individualized learning plans.
  • Provide real-time feedback, skills validation, and ongoing professional development.
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based patient care while functioning as a bedside Registered Nurse.
  • Promote clinical excellence, patient safety, critical thinking, and professional accountability.
  • Collaborate with leaders, educators, and interdisciplinary teams to support successful nurse onboarding and development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, teamwork, and high-quality patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with equivalent relevant experience.
  • Current Missouri Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current BLS certification and ACLS certification as required by department (or obtained within 90 days of assignment to department 7328).
  • Three (3) years of recent nursing experience with demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership.
  • Department-required certifications.
  • Proficiency with the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialty nursing certification.
  • Experience as a preceptor, mentor, or clinical educator.
