Department: Surgery
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk), 11:30am-8:00pm M-F, no weekends, no holidays
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of Surgery. The Peri-operative Attendant's primary job function is to transport patients to and from the operating room; perform surgical clipper preps; assist in turn over of rooms between surgical procedures; assist in the terminal cleaning and stocking of operating room suites.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Certificate of completion of a Nursing Assistant program or equivalent experience required
Licensure:
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Previous nurse assistant experience required.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Transport patients to and from the operating room.
2. Performs surgical clipper preps as indicated.
3. Maintains a clean environment and organization of surgical suites' supplies and equipment.
4. Assists other staff members in the timely turn-around of rooms between procedures.
5. May assist in the cleaning and sterilizing of instruments as needed.
6. Assists in the terminal cleaning of rooms and equipment on a daily, weekly, monthly basis as indicated.
7. Stock surgery suites and outlying areas as indicated at the end of the day's schedule.
8. Communicates supply shortages or other problems as appropriate to the staff or the charge person.
9. Contributes and fosters the team approach in all unit operations using positive interaction with customers.
10. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
11. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
