The Performance Innovation & Analytics Assistant drives data-informed decision-making across LSU Athletics by connecting strategy, research, performance innovation, and sports science execution. This role designs and deploys scalable analytics products, web platforms, automated reporting pipelines, scouting tools, and athlete development dashboards that translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for executives, coaches, and high-performance staff. This role also enhances the relationship between LSU Research and LSU Athletics by being the liaison for all major athletics studies. The position requires advanced technical capability, strong data acumen, and the judgment to operate in high-trust environments where speed, accuracy, and confidentiality are essential.
50% Produce weekly analytics-driven game-plan and opponent tendency reports to support coaching decisions and game-plan installation; Create repeatable data pipelines and dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Excel/Power Query, SQL, personalized website dashboards, and modern data platforms to reduce manual reporting time and improve accuracy; Develop sport-specific performance and scouting tools that integrate public, in-house, and tracking technology data into actionable workflows; Operate and integrate advanced performance technologies (e.g., Sportable, Trackman, Kinexon, VR/eye-tracking systems) to support player development and preparation; Design and deliver personalized, opponent-specific reports for coaches, analyst and players to strengthen scouting accuracy and competitive advantage; Provide real-time, game-day analytics support through internally built applications and dashboards to inform lineup optimization and performance trends.
25% Develop and maintain secure data streams for research in LSU athletes; Connect external data sources, such as medical data from EPIC, and deidentify incoming data to provide HIPAA compliant databases to researchers; Produce distribute and ensure enforcement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data collection in athletes to provide consistency between strength and conditioning coaches and across teams; Assist in data visualization and presentation to relevant key holders within LSU Athletics and the IHPC.
10% Build and maintain Men’s and Women’s Basketball analytics servers that centralize player development, game-day scouting, and transfer portal evaluations; Develop football player grading systems and transfer portal evaluation tools, including production grading models used for decision support; Create and distribute scouting reports for football and basketball that align analytics outputs with coaching and personnel priorities; Support NIL strategy and roster construction by delivering analytics products used directly by leadership (e.g., GM/Head Coach) for decision-making; Engineer secure, role-based access to analytics content and automate report distribution through server and web platform integrations.
10% Manage the DXA scan reporting workflow by transforming raw outputs into automated, coach- and dietitian-ready reports that support athlete nutrition and body composition decisions; Administer data quality checks, standardization, and documentation to ensure consistent longitudinal tracking for athletes; Coordinate communication between the DXA administrator and performance nutrition stakeholders to maximize data utilization and operational efficiency.
5% Design, develop, and maintain internal web platforms/servers that centralize scouting, performance, and business analytics resources for coaches and staff; Automate data ingestion, report generation, and dashboard refresh cycles using Python, JavaScript, Render, and related tooling to improve speed and reliability; Implement quality controls, versioning practices, and documentation to ensure platforms remain accurate, scalable, and easy to adopt; Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of an respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Analytics, Data Analytics, Sports Analytics, Kinesiology, or related field
One year of applied experience in sports analytics, performance analytics, or athletic department business analytics (collegiate, professional, or equivalent); Technical proficiency in analytics and automation tools, including SQL, Python and/or R, Tableau, and Excel/Power Query; ability to build repeatable pipelines and production-grade reporting; Experience designing and deploying web-based tools or internal platforms (e.g., HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Flask, dashboards) to operationalize analytics for end users; Demonstrated experience integrating and interpreting sports performance technologies and data sources; Ability to communicate complex findings clearly to executives, coaches, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Data Analytics, Sports Analytics, Kinesiology, or related field; Experience working with student-athlete performance data to help drive decision making for teams; Ability to deploy scalable websites and servers for the use of LSU personnel to consolidate complex data structures into interfaces that are easy-to-interpret and use to aid in more strategic and objective decision-making; Experience working with medical and student-athlete personal data to demonstrate ability to maintain HIPAA and/or FERPA privacy; Experience collecting data in both games and practices to be used for evaluation purposes; Familiarity with version control, documentation standards, and data governance practices for shared analytics products.
Special or Physical Requirements:
Ability to work extended days, nights, holidays, and weekends. Travel may be required.
