Job Description

Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Performance and Reward Consulting.

Purpose of the role

The Performance and Reward Consultant provides insight-led consulting and decision support across performance and reward. Based in Hyderabad, the role will initially support activities across Europe, working with Performance and Reward Partners, Country People Heads and specialist colleagues to deliver high-quality advisory and selected operational support.

The role translates policy, analytics and market information into clear options and recommendations, supports cyclical processes and strengthens standardisation, control and continuous improvement. As priorities evolve, the role may rotate across geographies, stakeholder portfolios, products, processes and projects.

In this role, you will

  • Provide guidance, constructive challenge and technical knowledge across performance, compensation and related Performance and Reward matters, interpreting policy and seeking specialist input where required.
  • Support cyclical processes, including year-end performance and pay review, market data, pay equity reviews, fixed pay range reviews, variable pay reviews and other activities within scope.
  • Translate analytics, internal data, market information and emerging trends into clear narratives, options, recommendations and decision-ready insights.
  • Build and maintain standard management information using agreed definitions and templates, including performance distributions, pay outcomes, expenditure against budget, population eligibility and internal equity views.
  • Undertake targeted analysis, scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis; identify anomalies, pay compression, outliers and variances from policy norms; and propose appropriate questions or actions.
  • Prepare stakeholder engagement materials and leadership-ready packs; simplify complex Performance and Reward topics into clear messages; and contribute to governance papers, committee materials, regulatory reporting and external disclosures where required.
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of reward programmes and complex queries, working with Performance and Reward Partners, Country People Heads, Analytical and Operational Associates and specialist teams to validate data, reconcile inputs and outputs, document exceptions and ensure effective hand-offs.
  • Maintain decision traceability and a strong control environment by recording assumptions, data sources, methodologies and outcomes; identifying and escalating risks promptly; improving playbooks, templates, training, documentation and data dictionaries; automating repeatable reporting where possible; and contributing to knowledge sharing, cross-training and continuous improvement.

To be successful you will

  • Hold a master’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Have relevant experience in performance, reward, compensation or a related field, preferably within financial services or another regulated environment.
  • Have strong knowledge of performance and reward principles, policy interpretation and cyclical delivery, with the ability to frame practical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret complex analytics and translate findings into concise, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Have strong analytical skills, with advanced capability in Microsoft Excel and, where relevant, business intelligence tools, supported by disciplined data handling, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Demonstrate clear written communication and confident verbal storylining for senior and non-technical audiences.
  • Have a sound understanding of governance, internal control, audit, legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to performance and reward.
  • Demonstrate structured problem-solving, sound judgement, stakeholder consulting capability, learning agility and the ability to plan and prioritise under tight timelines while working collaboratively across geographies, businesses and specialist teams.

What success looks like

Cyclical and in-year deliverables are completed on time, with minimal late escalation. Management information and analysis are accurate, timely and require little rework. Insights are clear and decision-ready, reducing stakeholder uncertainty and unnecessary data debate.

Hand-offs are smooth, with strong partnership feedback across Performance and Reward Partners, Analytics, Operations and other stakeholders. Standardisation and automation improve efficiency and reduce manual reporting effort. Assumptions, data sources, exceptions and decisions are documented clearly and can be audited.

The role demonstrates flexibility and contributes effectively as the portfolio evolves beyond the initial Europe scope.
