Position Title: Central Sterile Technician Position Code: TchCntSter-6104

Department: Central Sterile Safety Sensitive: YES

Reports to: Central Sterile Manager Exempt Status: NO

Position Purpose:

The Central Sterile Technician provides stocks supplies and equipment to Surgery and other areas in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

  • Receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment
  • Performs cleaning and sterilizing duties
  • Prepares packs of supplies, linens, and instruments to Central Sterile as
  • directed
  • Issues and distributes supplies and equipment based on determined levels
  • Maintains required records and statistics; performs weekly quality assurance.
  • Maintains cleanliness of pre-assigned areas and other areas in Central Sterile as designated by the Manager.
  • Attends Surgery department meeting or in-services as required.
  • Identifies situations and use of sound judgment in instituting established procedures to correct them in a calm and efficient manner.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Central Sterile or Surgical Technologist experience desirable

Certification/Licensure: Central Sterile Processing certification

· Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues

· Other potential hazard(s): subject to burns and cuts

Work Requirements [Optional section: work requirements for physical or other important issues which relate to the job]

  • Able to work well with hands, demonstrating good manual dexterity.
  • Able to bend and stoop frequently.
  • Able to climb ladder to retrieve supplies and to clean.
  • Able to walk a total distance of four miles per shift.
  • Able to lift and move objects in the following manner using proper body mechanics:
    • Upward-from floor level to knuckle level, from knuckle level to shoulder level and from knuckle level to overhead position.
    • Downward-from overhead position to knuckle level, from shoulder level to knuckle level to floor level.
  • Able to lift and move the following items with stated weights and frequencies in the manners set forth above:
    • Instruments and trays (weighing up to 25 lbs.)-lifted and moved frequently.
    • Small equipment and traction (weighing up to 25 lbs.)-lifted and moved occasionally.
  • Able to move (by pushing and/or pulling) pieces of equipment on wheels that weigh up to 150 lbs. for any distance within the physical dimensions of Kingman Regional Medical Center.
  • Able to sit for extended periods may, on occasion, be required.
