Job Description

Per Diem Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner / Psychiatrist

  • Location: Onsite, Roxbury MA
  • Compensation: $85/hr

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Per Diem Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Psychiatrist to provide high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health care. This role supports clinical operations on an as-needed basis, delivering psychiatric evaluation, supervision to newly practicing providers, medication management, and collaborative care across diverse patient populations.

The ideal candidate is flexible, clinically strong, and comfortable working in fast-paced environments while maintaining a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessments and risk evaluations
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, as appropriate
  • Provide medication management, including prescribing, adjusting, and monitoring psychotropic medications
  • Manage acute and chronic mental health conditions across the adult lifespan
  • Assess and manage crisis situations, including suicide risk and psychiatric decompensation
  • Provide brief therapeutic interventions and psychoeducation

Collaboration & Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including therapists, social workers, nurses, addiction medicine and primary care providers
  • Participate in case reviews, treatment planning meetings, and care coordination activities when appropriate
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers when appropriate
  • Ensure smooth transitions of care and appropriate follow-up

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulatory, licensing, and organizational standards
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal prescribing guidelines

Quality & Safety

  • Follow evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed
  • Promote a culture of safety, equity, and patient-centered care

Qualifications

For Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
  • Active, unrestricted state licensure
  • DEA registration (and controlled substance license as applicable)
  • Independently licensed

For Psychiatrist

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry
  • Active, unrestricted medical license
  • DEA registration

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings preferred
  • Experience in outpatient, inpatient, crisis, or community mental health settings is a plus
  • Experience with diverse or underserved populations strongly preferred

  • This position is hybrid-onsite or remote telehealth

  • May include outpatient clinics, hospitals, telehealth, or community-based settings
  • Ability to sit, stand, and engage with patients for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to high-stress or crisis situations
