We are now looking for an experienced Pepper Breeder to kick-start and lead our Lamuyo and Dulce Italiano pepper breeding programmes in Almería, one of Europe’s most dynamic vegetable-growing regions. This is a unique opportunity shaping pepper breeding programs quickly into commercial success, with the support of a global R&D network and the long term stability of KWS.

Your tasks:

  • Develop and manage the breeding programmes for lamuyo and dulce Italiano pepper segments
  • You use, innovate and optimise breeding schemes by using state-of-the-art breeding technologies for the development and selection of high-quality commercial successful varieties.
  • You cooperate with internal groups of breeding, research, product development and production.
  • You bring your ideas and support scientific research projects.
  • Manage, direct, and coordinate activities for competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning breeding team

Your profile:

  • Min. 5 years experience in a vegetable breeding programme
  • You hold a PhD or master’s degree with a focus on plant breeding.
  • You have gained good knowledge in quantitative genetics, plant pathology, breeding methodology and the pepper vegetable market
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required for the position and preferably good working knowledge of Spanish
  • The ability to work (assessment, selection) under field conditions is common ground for you
  • You are known to be a strong communicator and a team player person with excellent organisational and analytical skills.
  • You have the ability to work in an international team of breeders and scientists
  • You have the willingness and flexibility for business trips
