Job Description

About the Role

The People & Wellbeing Advisor is a hands-on operational role within Ironbark’s People & Wellbeing team, providing practical HR support to managers and employees across the employee lifecycle.

Reporting to the People & Wellbeing Manager, you will be a key point of contact for day-to-day HR matters and will work across recruitment, onboarding and offboarding, employment documentation, employee records, HR systems, performance and attendance matters, and general employee enquiries.

You will work closely with managers to provide practical support and guidance, helping them follow Ironbark’s policies, processes and employment obligations. You will also assist with more complex employee matters under the guidance of the People & Wellbeing Manager.

A key part of the role is ensuring our HR administration and systems are accurate and up to date. This includes maintaining employee records, preparing employment documentation, monitoring employee lifecycle activities and helping ensure important HR processes are completed when they should be.

Just as importantly, this is a people-facing role. You will work with employees and managers from a wide range of backgrounds and across different locations and areas of our organisation. Building respectful relationships, communicating appropriately and contributing to a culturally safe workplace are fundamental to being successful in this position.

We are looking for someone who brings practical HR experience and confidence in the fundamentals, while still being willing to learn, ask questions and genuinely invest in understanding Ironbark, our people and the communities we work with.

We are open to considering part-time or flexible working hours for the right candidate. As this is a hands-on, people-facing role, the position is site-based and is not available as a remote working arrangement.

Why this role matters

People are at the heart of everything we do.

The People & Wellbeing Advisor helps make sure our employees and managers receive practical, timely and consistent HR support. Whether helping a new employee get started, supporting a manager with an attendance or performance matter, preparing employment documentation or simply helping someone find the answer to an HR question, the role has a direct impact on the everyday experience of our people.

Ironbark works with and for First Nations people and communities, and cultural safety is an important part of how we work. This role has an opportunity to build strong relationships across the organisation and contribute to a workplace where people feel respected, supported and valued.

We are looking for someone who has:

You will have demonstrated experience delivering practical HR support across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employment changes, employee relations and offboarding, with the ability to confidently apply Australian employment legislation and organisational HR policies and procedures to day-to-day workplace matters. This includes assessing situations, providing practical and appropriate guidance, following established processes, and recognising when a matter requires escalation or more specialised advice.

Comfortable with the practical side of HR, you will be experienced in preparing employment documentation, coordinating recruitment and onboarding, maintaining employee records and HR systems, responding to employee enquiries, supporting employee changes and offboarding, and assisting managers with day-to-day people matters.

Demonstrated experience supporting employee relations matters is essential, including performance, attendance, conduct and workplace concerns. This means being confident gathering and assessing information, applying policies and procedures, preparing appropriate documentation, supporting formal processes and providing practical guidance to managers. Sound judgement, clear and sensitive communication, and the ability to recognise more complex or higher-risk matters requiring escalation are also important.

You will be organised, reliable and able to manage multiple priorities, with good written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail. Confidence using HR systems and other workplace technology is also important.

Importantly, you will bring cultural awareness, respect and an openness to learning. You understand that working effectively with First Nations people requires listening, building relationships and recognising that different cultural perspectives and ways of communicating may influence how we approach our work.

Previous experience working with Aboriginal people or communities would be valued, but it is your willingness to learn and continually build your cultural understanding that is essential.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is approachable, practical and willing to get involved - someone who enjoys operational HR and wants to be part of a team that supports people across all areas of Ironbark.

What we offer:

Salary and Benefits: Competitive salary package including 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.

NFP Salary Packaging: Save tax and increase your take home pay by salary packaging your everyday living expenses and bills (up to $15,900) and meal entertainment (up to $2,650) per annum.

Family and Lifestyle Support: Access to wellbeing initiatives and generous leave entitlements.

Purpose-Driven Work: Be part of a values-led organisation creating real and lasting impact for Aboriginal people and communities.

Career Development: Opportunities to expand your HR capability, contribute to organisational improvement initiatives, and grow your career within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
