The Role

This role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Human Resources (HR) technology solutions across the British Council. The role ensures that HR technology is aligned with business objectives, supports efficient and user-friendly People processes, and delivers a seamless experience for employees and HR professionals. It also provides oversight of the People technology ecosystem, including SAP SuccessFactors, Talent Intelligence platforms, and other connected systems, while driving innovation, compliance, and operational excellence.

Reporting to the People Experience and Insight pillar, the role is a key contributor to the organisation’s HRIS and People technology strategy. Working closely with Digital & Technology teams and external partners, the role focuses on embedding transformational ways of working through technology, optimizing system processes, and delivering scalable, sustainable solutions that enhance employee experience and business outcomes.

Main responsibilities

This role provides strategic leadership for the British Council’s People Technology landscape, ensuring HR systems such as SAP SuccessFactors, Talent Intelligence platforms, and connected tools are secure, scalable, compliant, and aligned with business priorities. The role is responsible for developing and delivering the People Technology roadmap, driving process transformation through technology, establishing governance frameworks, and embedding AI-enabled solutions that enhance efficiency, decision-making, and employee experience while maintaining appropriate controls, compliance, and ethical standards.

Working closely with People leaders, Digital & Technology teams, external partners, and vendors, the role ensures effective delivery of HR technology services across recruitment, employee records, payroll, and other People processes. It focuses on building strong stakeholder relationships, overseeing system performance and enhancements, maintaining data integrity, managing change initiatives, and continuously improving the HR technology ecosystem through user feedback, process optimisation, and the rationalisation of legacy systems.

  • Problem Solving (Developing): Identifies practical solutions to challenges and drives continuous improvement.

Role specific knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Strong understanding of HR processes and practices.
  • Expertise in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems), HCM (Human Capital Management), and other HR technologies.
  • Proficiency in system integration and data management.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and security best practices.
  • 5+ years’ experience of working with SAP SuccessFactors
  • 5+ years’ experience in process improvement, process management, or similar role

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, or related field
  • Knowledge of HR practices
  • Significant experience in managing HR systems within a large, global and complex organization with matrix structures
  • Proven track record of leading process improvement initiatives and projects
  • Experience in working on standardizing & implementing global processes within the system
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Language Requirements

The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
