Your Impact

As the P&C Generalist based in our Tokyo Office (Roppongi), you will report to the Senior Director, Regional People Business Partner and work closely with People Operations, Payroll, Legal and other stakeholders across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways:

  • Taking ownership of Japan’s end-to-end P&C operations and becoming the trusted subject matter expert for employees, managers and the business.
  • Building and improving scalable People processes in a fast-growing organisation, with the opportunity to shape how the employee experience is delivered in Japan.
  • Gaining broad regional exposure by partnering across functions and countries on HR transformation, systems, payroll, compliance and broader P&C initiatives.

What you’ll do

  • Provide day-to-day P&C advice and support on performance, conduct, attendance, and workplace concerns, escalating complex matters to the Senior Director of HR as appropriate.
  • Coach managers on the fair, consistent and legally compliant application of policies, employment practices and employee relations processes.
  • Support the delivery of AirTrunk’s P&C programs, including goal setting, performance reviews, promotions, workforce planning, employee engagement, talent development and broader talent management initiatives.
  • Provide end-to-end HR operations support to employees throughout the employment lifecycle, from onboarding through to termination, acting as the subject matter expert for Japan.
  • Execute, administer and continuously improve AirTrunker lifecycle processes, ensuring a consistent and high-quality employee experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Japanese employment legislation and support compliance with local employment, occupational health and safety, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate local compliance activities, including Health and Safety Committee processes, engagement with the corporate doctor and delivery of Stress Check requirements.
  • Support payroll, attendance, social insurance and employee benefits administration, working closely with payroll vendors, social security attorneys and other external providers.
  • Partner with the Legal team to support the preparation and maintenance of labour agreements, work rules, policies and other employment documentation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files and HR documentation, ensuring data integrity and compliance with internal requirements.
  • Provide operational support for regional HRIS, payroll and process-improvement projects, including system testing, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Support background checks, employment verification, immigration matters and other core People Operations activities.
  • Provide cross-country coverage for People Operations colleagues and share knowledge of Japan-specific processes with regional team members.
  • Provide face-to-face support to employees regarding the Japan rent program, including eligibility, applications, amendments and cessation of benefits.
  • Support onboarding data validation in partnership with ATHQ Payroll, including following up on incomplete or inaccurate information across HRIS and related platforms.
  • Support offboarding activities by ensuring requirements are clearly documented and communicated, including employee choices regarding future tax collection and the use of outstanding leave up to the last working day.
  • Prepare and provide payroll-related WHS reporting, including overtime heat maps for WHS Committee meetings.
  • Contribute to ad hoc P&C initiatives and operational priorities in a fast-scaling organisation.

What you’ll bring

  • 5-8 years’ experience in an HR Generalist, People Operations or similar role, ideally within a fast-growing organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese employment practices, payroll, benefits, social insurance and employee relations.
  • Experience working in a multinational, matrix environment, with the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships in English.
  • Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding through to offboarding.
  • The confidence to work independently, manage competing priorities and make sound decisions within established frameworks.
  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to advise employees and coach managers effectively.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to partner closely with the Senior Director of HR, Payroll, Legal, vendors and regional People teams.
  • A practical, continuous-improvement mindset, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a high-quality employee experience
