The P&C Business Partner – Canada serves as the primary People & Culture partner for employees across multiple business functions and provinces within Canada. This position acts as the primary trusted advisor to employees and leaders while ensuring compliance with Canadian employment legislation and providing strategic and operational P&C leadership while partnering closely with North American Centers of Excellence (COEs) in Compensation & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Payroll, and P&C Operations.

This is a broad, hands-on role requiring the successful candidate to operate comfortably across the full spectrum of People and Culture—from transactional employee support and case administration to strategic workforce planning and leadership advisement. The individual must be willing and able to manage the details directly, prepare documentation, coordinate employee lifecycle activities, and respond to day-to-day employee and manager needs while also identifying organizational trends, mitigating risk, and influencing business decisions.

The P&C Business Partner serves as the local Human Resources expert for Canada and is responsible for employee relations, employment and labour law compliance, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, disability management, workplace accommodations, workers’ compensation, organizational effectiveness, performance management, and change management. While Centers of Excellence provide specialized expertise and program ownership, this position is accountable for delivering a seamless employee experience and ensuring local execution across Canada.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Act as the primary People & Culture (P&C) partner for employees and leaders across Canada.
  • Provide strategic HR guidance on employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and change initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian employment, labour, human rights, health & safety, privacy, and accessibility legislation.
  • Lead employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution while assessing organizational and legal risk.
  • Manage leaves of absence, disability accommodations, return-to-work plans, and workplace accommodation processes.
  • Oversee workers' compensation claims and coordinate safe, sustainable return-to-work programs.
  • Partner with leaders on talent management, succession planning, leadership development, employee engagement, and organizational design.
  • Collaborate with Compensation & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development teams to support key people programs and business objectives.
  • Prepare and manage employment documentation, employee lifecycle transactions, and HR communications.
  • Analyze workforce trends, identify process improvement opportunities, and leverage HR systems and reporting to drive informed decision-making.
  • Support organizational growth and transformation while balancing business needs, employee experience, compliance, and risk management.

WHAT YOU HAVE

  • Expert knowledge of Canadian employment and labour legislation, employment standards, and workers’ compensation programs.
  • Strong experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, disability management, accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Proven ability to coach leaders on performance management, workforce challenges, organizational change, and complex employment matters.
  • Strong analytical and business acumen with the ability to interpret workforce data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with experience preparing reports, presentations, and employment documentation.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence leaders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Experience using HRIS, payroll, and workforce management systems; knowledge of Workday, ADP, or SAP SuccessFactors is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment while balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation preferred.
  • Additional certifications in employment law, workplace investigations, disability management, labour relations, or workers’ compensation are considered assets.

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience supporting Canadian operations across multiple provinces.
  • Extensive experience with employment law compliance, employee relations, workplace investigations, and workforce planning.
  • Demonstrated success managing leaves of absence, accommodations, disability management, workers’ compensation claims, and return-to-work programs.
  • Experience supporting organizational growth, change management, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Experience working within a Center of Excellence (COE) HR model and supporting distributed workforces in construction, renewable energy, field services, or similar industries is preferred.
