Job Scope
As Bamboo’s People Business Partner, you’ll be the connective tissue between our people strategy and the day-to-day realities of every team at Bamboo.
This is a 1-year contract where, you will be the primary HR point of contact for all departments, partnering closely with team leads and managers to ensure their people needs are met. You will own the full employee lifecycle for the teams you support: from hiring the right people, to making sure they are set up for success, fairly managed, and growing in their careers. As Bamboo scales, you will move from supporting all departments to owning dedicated business units, deepening your impact over time.
The role is based in Lagos, Nigeria and is hybrid, with a requirement of a minimum of two days in office.
What you will be doing:
HR Business Partnering
Acting as the first point of contact for all people-related matters across departments: providing timely, practical, and empathetic support to managers and employees.
Building trusted relationships with team leads and department heads, developing a deep understanding of their team dynamics, goals, and people challenges.
Advising managers on best practice across the full employee lifecycle: from structuring roles and managing performance, to handling sensitive conversations and navigating team changes.
Identifying patterns and themes across teams and surfacing insights to the Head of People & Culture to inform broader people strategy.
As Bamboo grows, transitioning from a generalist support model to owning dedicated business units with deep, embedded partnership.
Recruitment & Hiring
Owning end-to-end recruitment for roles across your departments; from scoping the brief and sourcing candidates, to managing the process and ensuring a great candidate experience throughout.
Working with hiring managers to define clear role requirements, interview frameworks, and evaluation criteria before each search begins.
Tracking and reporting on hiring metrics; time to hire, pipeline conversion, drop-off points, and offer acceptance rates and using data to continuously improve the recruitment process.
Managing relationships with external recruitment partners where needed, ensuring quality and value.
Performance Management
Ensuring that all employees across your departments have clear, meaningful goals set at the start of each quarter and that goal-setting processes are completed on time.
Supporting managers in conducting fair, consistent, and constructive performance reviews and providing coaching and frameworks where needed.
Proactively identifying employees who may be underperforming or disengaged, and partnering with managers to put appropriate support structures in place.
Tracking development plans for all employees in your departments, ensuring they are completed and regularly reviewed.
Employee Documentation & Org Structure Management
Managing all employment contract changes including new hires, promotions, role changes, and off-boarding; ensuring all documentation is accurate, compliant, and processed in a timely manner.
Partnering with the Head of People & Culture on compensation benchmarking and ensuring job changes are reflected accurately in the HRIS.
Supporting organisational design conversations; helping managers think through team structures, spans of control, and role clarity as teams evolve.
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records for all employees across your departments in Bamboo's People systems.
Ensuring all employees across your departments have up-to-date employment documentation: including signed contracts, current job descriptions, and any relevant addenda and proactively chasing outstanding documents to ensure full compliance.
Learning & Development
Working with managers and employees to identify learning needs and ensuring individual development plans are in place and being actively pursued.
Partnering with the broader People & Culture team to design and roll out training programmes both department-specific and company-wide based on identified needs.
Identifying and managing relationships with external training vendors where in-house delivery is not sufficient.
Tracking training completion and measuring impact, feeding findings back into future L&D planning.
Employee Relations & Team Dynamics
Supporting managers in navigating employee relations issues — including conflict resolution, disciplinary processes, and grievance handling — with care, consistency, and good judgement.
Proactively monitoring team health and dynamics, flagging concerns early and working with leadership to address them before they escalate.
Championing fairness and consistency in how people are treated across all departments, ensuring Bamboo's people practices reflect its values.
Who You Are
You have 3–5 years of HR experience, ideally with exposure across multiple areas of the employee lifecycle including recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and L&D.
You are a natural relationship builder: people trust you quickly, and you know how to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and directness in equal measure.
You are commercially minded and understand that great people practices exist to drive business outcomes, not just tick boxes.
You have strong knowledge of employment best practices and can apply them pragmatically in a fast-paced, scaling business.
You are comfortable working with data: you use it to tell stories, spot trends, and make a case for change.
You have experience using modern HRIS and recruitment tools: bonus points for HiBOB and Teamtailor.
You are highly organised and can manage multiple priorities across multiple teams without losing sight of the detail.
You communicate exceptionally well: in writing, in person, and in the room when things get uncomfortable.
You thrive in environments that are fast-moving and evolving, and you bring structure without becoming rigid.
You have a 'can do' attitude: you own your work fully and hold yourself to a high standard.
You are never tired of learning.
