Job Description

In August 2026, Tend completed the iwi and locally-backed acquisition of The Doctors. Brought together with Tend’s existing clinics and digital platform, the combined business now operates more than 80 clinics across Aotearoa.

We’re looking for an experienced People and Culture Business Partner to join our team. This is a senior role in scope, trust, and impact. You'll work directly with our leadership team as a genuine partner who drives outcomes - not someone who waits to be told what to do, but someone who spots opportunities, picks it up, and sees it through.

The scope here is genuinely broad. You'll manage employment relations cases end to end, coach managers across the full employment lifecycle and lead change and progress workstreams across a nationwide healthcare organisation. You'll contribute to workforce planning, engagement and culture, and support senior recruitment. As we continue to grow and evolve, you may also pick up health and safety, and support M&A people due diligence. This is a true all-rounder role - not a specialist lane.

We're growing fast and things don't sit still! If you need a fully mapped-out playbook before you can move, this probably isn't the role for you. But if you can walk into ambiguity, figure out what good looks like, build the process as you go - and leave behind something that actually scales - you'll thrive here.

This role is for you if:

  • You've worked somewhere with real pace. Perhaps it was a startup or a fast-growing business and you know how to triage work between what is urgent vs what is important.
  • You've also worked somewhere with real rigour, so you know what a genuinely good process looks like, and can tailor it to meet the needs of a unique business
  • You don't just complete the work - you leave things better than you found them and build systems so others can too
  • You've got deep employment relations experience. You lead with judgement, not process and you know the rules well enough to know when pragmatism serves better than perfection.
  • Your coaching means you are a valued senior partner who our leaders turn to for balanced, commercial advice.
  • People trust you quickly. You build genuine relationships and know that trust is the foundation everything else rests on.
  • You have no ego about the work. You'll roll your sleeves up, pick up what needs doing, and get it done - whether it's strategic or operational.
  • You can move between the detail of a complex ER case and a workforce planning conversation without missing a beat and you connect both back to where the business is going.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience as a senior business partner or similar. Ideally with exposure to both high-growth/startup environments and larger corporate structures
  • Strong, hands-on employment relations capability that sees you running processes from end to end.
  • A genuine and proven coaching approach with leaders
  • Comfort holding multiple competing priorities and making judgement calls on where your time goes
  • A bias toward building and improving processes - and the discipline to systemise them so they scale.
  • Experience across a broad HR remit. Workforce planning, engagement, leadership, recruitment, and ideally some exposure to health and safety or M&A people work.
