This role is part of our People Partnering team and is critical in leading on complex, high‑risk Employee Relations matters. You’ll provide expert, commercially minded advice to Leaders, acting as a trusted advisor for all ER issues.

Working autonomously, you’ll take ownership of complex ER caseloads while supporting Leaders to build capability, confidence, and a consistent, fair approach to people decisions. Your work ensures our colleagues feel supported, and our organisation continues to embed great leadership and real care.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage complex ER issues

  • Act as the primary ER advisor for Leaders, providing decisive, expert advice on complex or sensitive matters including grievances, disciplinaries, long‑term sickness and performance capability.
  • Coach and influence Leaders to resolve issues early and effectively, while maintaining compliance and mitigating risk.

Expert guidance across the employee lifecycle

  • Advise on a broad range of people matters including maternity/paternity, statutory rights, restructures, and contractual queries—translating technical legislation into clear, practical guidance.

Policy ownership and ER governance

  • Proactively manage, review, and update Policies, Procedures, Guidance and Templates to ensure compliance, clarity, and accessibility via our online ER Hub.
  • Identify risk areas or trends and escalate appropriately to People Business Partners.

Drive continuous improvement in ER practice

  • Analyse ER and People metrics to identify themes and opportunities for improvement, providing insights that inform strategic decision‑making.
  • Monitor changes in UK Employment Law and external HR best practice, championing proactive updates to policies and processes.

Systems and data integrity

  • Maintain and support the accuracy of people data within Workday, ensuring high standards of integrity and consistency.

Support strategic people initiatives

  • Work collaboratively with the People Business Partnering team on wider People projects and organisational initiatives with ER implications.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience leading complex ER casework autonomously within a commercially focused HR environment.
  • Deep and demonstrable knowledge of UK Employment Law and ER best practice.
  • Strong decision‑making and coaching abilities, with confidence advising Leaders at all levels.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for high standards and consistency in ER practice.
  • Ability to balance business needs with legal compliance, delivering pragmatic, well‑reasoned solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical information in a clear, tailored, and empathetic way.

Why Join Us

Because here, you’ll help shape something exceptional.

You’ll be empowered to influence, trusted to lead, and supported by a team who care deeply about people and purpose.
