TITLE Peer Consultant in Writing

DEPARTMENT Writing Center

REPORTS TO Kristi Girdharry, kgirdharry@babson.edu

PAY RATE $20/hour

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Babson College Writing Center is a dynamic academic support center and peer learning community. As a Peer Consultant in Writing, you will work one-on-one with fellow Babson students to help them grow as writers—from brainstorming and drafting all the way through revision and editing. This is a meaningful, skill-building role that strengthens your own writing, communication, and leadership capabilities while directly supporting your peers.

The Writing Center serves students across all disciplines, supporting work ranging from course papers and case analyses to cover letters, business plans, and graduate school applications. Our consultants are carefully selected undergraduate writers who are trained to meet each student where they are and help them make informed, effective choices in their work.

A unique opportunity for current Babson undergraduates, in order to apply for this role, you must have taken WRT4602: Practicum in Peer Consulting and Writing.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Conduct 30-minute one-on-one writing consultations with Babson students at all levels and across all disciplines

Support writers through all stages of the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, and editing

Help students with a wide range of writing tasks, including course papers, business plans, case analyses, essays, resumes, cover letters, and more

Use a collaborative, non-directive approach: ask guiding questions and offer constructive feedback rather than editing for the student

Manage appointment scheduling and student accounts through WConline, our online scheduling platform

Complete brief Client Report Forms after each session to document work and support continuity of care

Participate in mandatory staff meetings and ongoing trainings that deepen knowledge of writing pedagogy and Writing Center theory

Observe all Writing Center policies, including the shift cancellation policy, appointment etiquette, and confidentiality guidelines

May optionally assist with classroom visits, including WRT courses and other classes to introduce students to Writing Center services, and/or contribute to Writing Center outreach and programming, which may include social media content, workshops, and campus events

Assume additional responsibilities as required.
