About the service:

The Medicare Mental Health Centre service model is tailored to the needs of the local community and offers a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress. Allowing low risk individuals to identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department and gaining access support from trained mental health professional within their community, outside a clinical setting.

  • Based in Parramatta, NSW
  • Permanent, full-time opportunity available
  • Hours of work: 9am to 5pm and/or 1:30pm to 9:30pm, Monday to Friday
  • Paying on SCHADs level 3 plus Super

  • Mentor and support consumers in a person-led, strengths focused and recovery-oriented way to support hope and promote resilience, and who models the possibility and longevity of recovery;
  • Build respectful, professional and appropriate relationships with consumers based around conversations which draw from personal experiences and emotions to support people in their journey of recovery;
  • Inform and contribute to employees learning and service understanding, and advocate on systemic issues impacting people living with mental health issues.

Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or a willingness to complete
  • Ability to work across various shift times
  • Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery and proactivity in managing wellbeing
  • A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
  • Ability to foster and maintain respectful, professional relationships with consumers, staff and organisations
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
  • Computer literacy
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
  • Current driver's licence
