Peer Support Workers use their lived experience with mental health recovery to walk alongside clients who are working toward stability, independence, and community integration. The goal is to help clients build coping skills, manage symptoms, stay engaged in treatment, and avoid hospitalization so they can remain active in their communities.

What You’ll Do
Provide one-on-one and group peer support services that promote hope, empowerment, and recovery
Teach and model coping skills, daily-living strategies, and self-advocacy
Support clients in navigating community resources, appointments, and treatment plans
Document services accurately and on time
Maintain confidentiality and uphold agency standards
Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who brings lived experience and professionalism. Someone grounded, empathetic, and able to support others with healthy boundaries. To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be eligible to complete the Kansas Peer Support Specialist training and required background checks after hire.
Age Requirement:
At least 18 years old.
Communication:
Good listening skills, clear verbal communication, and basic writing ability.
Work Style:
Reliable, flexible, self-motivated, punctual, and able to stay organized while meeting expectations.
Boundaries:
Ability to maintain healthy, professional boundaries with peers and clients.
Driving Requirements:
Valid Kansas driver’s license, insurability under Prairie View’s policy, and willingness to transport clients when needed.
Technology:
Comfort with basic computer use and documentation.
Screenings:
Ability to pass the KBI background check and Adult/Child Central Registry screenings.
