Scope of Position:
The role of a Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) is to support patients with and in recovery from a substance use disorder (SUD). PRSs serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator forpatients with SUD to orderhelpthem engage in necessary treatment, promote long-term recovery, and prevent relapse.
The PRS will listen to patients and share personal experience to provide insight on barriers to recovery,identifysolutions, and provide hope and address shame and stigmaEncouragepatientsintheir treatment journey and share medicallyaccurateinformation.Work withpatienttoidentifyrecovery needs, set goals,anticipatebarriers, and develop resilience skills. Act as an advocate for the patient to address all medical and behavioral health needs. Meet with family and friends of the patient, with permission, to answer questions, talk about the process of treatment & recovery, and dispel myths. PRSs will work closely with other healthcare professionals tomonitorprogress,identifyconcerns, and provide holistic and culturally competent care.In addition, PRS will cultivate knowledge of local addiction resources, and engage in community outreach with other agencies that serve individuals in recovery who may be interested in treatment services from OSUWMC. PRS may be available to talk with patients after discharge to ensureappropriate follow-upcare.

Ongoing:Current Basic Life Support Certification Complete Computer Based Learning (CBLs) annually. Maintain annual competencies as outlined by OSUMC. Maintain CEUs for PRS Certification.
