Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Essential Functions)

  • Supervise residents to assure their health and safety
  • Provide peer support to those needing support.
  • Meet with clients on a regular basis, or as needed after the initial meeting to discuss routine recovery issues from a peer perspective.
  • Provide quality program services to the individuals served in a professional manner.
  • Complete required documentation according to program standards and timelines.
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, education and skill-building around wellness planning, crisis planning, and self-advocacy to support the clients' recovery goals.
  • Act as a liaison between the clinical team and clients to ensure each client's needs and preferences are understood and honored whenever possible.
  • Provide services that help clients identify their strengths and to use their strengths to reach their treatment goals, and identify and overcome barriers to participate in community resources.
  • Assist in planning and supervising recreational activities for clients.
  • Maintain confidential client records. Process client record requests.
  • Perform other routine support tasks, including filing, photocopying, answering telephones, and compiling statistical reports.
  • Attend weekly clinical staff meetings as needed.
  • Understand and follow emergency fire and weather policies and procedures.
  • Attain, maintain and promote a positive, safe, harmonious, productive and challenging work environment.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and relevant services to diverse clients and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge skills and abilities).

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Have a primary diagnosis of mental illness.
  • Demonstrate leadership and advocacy skills, and have a strong dedication to recovery.
  • Current DHS certification as a Certified Peer Specialist.

The primary goal and objective of the Northstar Behavioral Health residential treatment program we have developed is to reduce harms associated with illicit drug use by providing access to Suboxone, Buprenorphine, and Methadone, counseling, and access to other community-based services within our facility. Our vision is to improve the health and wellness of opioid dependent persons by providing an accessible service, which in turn will help them return to being a productive member of the community.
