Position Title: Peer Career Advisor

Anticipated Start Date: 10/12/2026

End Date: 6/15/2027

Approximate number of hours: Up to 15 hours/week

The Peer Career Advisor (PCA) is an essential position designed to meet the growing student demand for jobs, internships, and professional development opportunities. The PCA serves as the primary reviewer for student materials, managing the majority of resume, cover letters, and LinkedIn profile reviews through the Information School Career Services Program Career Guides on Canvas, and is the key person responsible for maintaining and managing the iCareers Job Board. This role involves assisting with program planning, marketing, implementation, data projects and other administrative duties/tasks.

Our PCA receives extensive support through on-the-job training, weekly in-service meetings, and supportive supervision. This structure is designed to help you develop and cultivate the core career competencies that employers look for in an inclusive environment that values acceptance, diversity, and equity.

These key competencies include: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Oral/Written Communications, Teamwork/Collaboration, Information Technology Application, Leadership, Professionalism/Work Ethic, Career Management, and Global/Intercultural Fluency. The iCareer Staff is strongly committed to supporting students, alumni, and employers from all backgrounds and identities.

Responsibilities will include the following duties:

  • Review online resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile submissions through Canvas.
  • Assist in iSchool Career Fair planning under the direction of iCareer staff.
  • Assist in maintain and updating Program Career Guides.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned, including general support for research and event planning.
  • Evaluate students’ needs, take appropriate action, and/or properly direct them to relevant resources.
  • Collaborate with RSOs and iCareer Services staff regarding career-related events and workshops.
  • Maintain database tracking the number of quarterly material reviews.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer workshops and drop-in advising; provide simple career advice based on best practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled UW Seattle student.
  • Maintain a quarterly minimum GPA of at least 2.5.
  • Available to work some evenings for scheduled events throughout the year (such as RSO workshops/presentations and Alumni Outreach Events).
  • Demonstrate initiative, with the ability to take ownership of projects and have exceptional follow-through.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, organization, time management, and task prioritization skills.
  • Show a strong customer service orientation and a professional or personal interest in students’ career development.
  • Be able to contribute professionally and respectfully to our diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Must have stable access to the internet while working remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products, SharePoint, and Canvas
  • Experience with presenting in front of large and diverse audiences
  • Experience with information architecture and/or knowledge management
  • Experience working in hybrid settings
