Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
The Advisor(s) will serve as mentors and will advise undergraduate students on basic career services including but not limited to: resume writing, cover letter writing, job search strategies, LinkedIn, and using Handshake, Chapman University’s Online Career Portal. Peer Advisors may also support the facilitation of workshops and presentations for student organizations and other audiences, including parents and prospective students. In addition, Peer Advisors will also assist Fowler School of Engineering Career Services with programming and staffing events, outreach to student organizations and colleges on campus, and marketing and administrative tasks within Career and Professional Development.

Responsibilities
  1. Advise and mentor undergraduate students on resume writing, career resources, job searching techniques, LinkedIn, and other career-related inquiries
  2. Follow-up with students to check in on progress of their career-related inquiries. Facilitate workshops and present to student organizations on campus regarding an overview of Career and Professional Development’s resources, resume writing, cover letter writing, LinkedIn review, and other resources
  3. Conduct presentations to prospective students and families, support campus-wide events to represent career services
  4. Operate Handshake, Chapman’s Career Portal, from the admin side to make student appointments, track notes for student appointments, and manage document portal for all Chapman University students
  5. Provide support for various Career and Professional Development programs and events, including tabling events when needed (Will notify about event in advance)
  6. Outreach to student organizations
  7. Update and provide suggestions on Career and Professional Development handouts, presentation decks, and collateral
  8. Assist with other Career and Professional Development projects as needed.

Required Qualifications
  1. Be able to commit at least for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
  2. Previous part-time or internship experience in a technical, engineering, or major-related work
  3. Have availability to work up to but not exceeding 19 hours a week (these hours will vary depending on event and programming needs) Anticipated hours: 4 hours minimum
  4. Attend mandatory training with the supervisor
  5. Strong organization, promptness, time management, interpersonal skills, and willingness to learn
  6. FERPA training required

  3. Open to assisting with tasks that do not typically fall under this role, when it is needed by the team
