The Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is actively seeking to fill a full-time clinical faculty position for a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in pediatric psychology, with specific experience with solid transplant services preferred but not required.
The psychologist will join the rapidly growing Division of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at VUMC, partnering with the existing psychologist in the transplant program. The pediatric transplant psychologist will be primarily responsible for program development and coverage of the Pediatric Kidney service and shared responsibilities for the Heart Transplant service, with the opportunity for cross coverage in Liver Transplant. The psychologist will be responsible for psychosocial assessment for readiness for solid organ transplantation, screening during annual post-transplant follow-up, as well as psychological follow-up for patients and families as needed. In addition to conducting pre-transplant evaluations, areas of clinical focus include coping with medical stressors, treatment adherence, procedural anxiety, parent-child communication around disease management, and management of co-morbid mental health issues.
The psychologist will engage in active interdisciplinary collaboration with the respective transplant teams to provide integrated care to optimize the quality of life of patients and families. This position is embedded within subspecialty programs within Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, serving patients and families from the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area, as well as surrounding states. The pediatric transplant psychologist will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines and medical teams, with the potential for involvement in research, quality improvement initiatives, and training and education.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD or PsyD) with significant experience in pediatric psychology (experience with transplant preferred by not required).
Licensed and/or license-eligible in Tennessee.
