The Tulane University School of Medicine, in partnership with Manning Family Children’s, the leading Pediatric academic medical center in the region, is seeking a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist to join our expanding Pediatric Hematology-Oncology team. This is a unique opportunity to care for children with CNS tumors in a multidisciplinary environment, to engage in research, and to contribute to the growth of the premier Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and Hematology-Oncology program in Louisiana. There are opportunities for translational and clinical research studies, and involvement in pharmaceutical, cellular therapy, and gene therapy trials.
The prospective candidate will join our team of 11 pediatric hematologist-oncologists, variously appointed by Tulane University and/or LSU Health Sciences Center, 5 APPs, 2 oncology pharmacists, 2 social workers and dedicated child life specialists. A Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship program is administered by LSUHSC. The ideal candidate will be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology with completion of a one-year Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Fellowship or broad clinical experience in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology. We are actively involved in Children’s Oncology Group (COG), Alliance Cancer Trials, and other cooperative networks. Candidates with interest in health equity, clinical innovation, and program building are highly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
·Provide expert clinical care for children and adolescents with primary brain and spinal cord tumors.
·Provide inpatient coverage of the pediatric hematology oncology service (24 hematology-oncology beds)
·Work collaboratively with pediatric neurosurgery, radiation oncology, neuroradiology, and palliative care to deliver comprehensive multidisciplinary care.
·Participate in pediatric tumor boards and institutional clinical trial efforts.
·Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and Pediatric hematology oncology fellows as part of Tulane University and LSUHSC’s academic mission.
·Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical or translational research in Pediatric neuro-oncology.
·Support quality improvement initiatives and help expand access to neuro-oncology services across the Gulf South region.
About the Program:
Manning Family Children’s is the only freestanding children’s hospital in Louisiana and serves as the primary pediatric teaching site for both Tulane University and LSUHSC Pediatrics. The hospital is home to a growing array of pediatric subspecialists, including neuroradiology, neurosurgery, and radiation oncology, and houses state-of-the-art facilities. The institution is a member of COG and has a strong infrastructure to support clinical research and academic advancement.
Qualified applicants must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and be licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana by the start date. He or she must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Successful candidates will have outstanding patient care skills, a strong desire to share their knowledge with students and residents and participate in advancing the quality of care at Manning Family Children’s Hospital. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the advancement of scholarly or educational activities in the department.
