Pediatric Hospitalist - 1099 Independent Contractor Opportunity

Position Overview

St. Charles Health System is seeking experienced Pediatric Hospitalists to provide per diem inpatient pediatric coverage as independent contractors (1099) at St. Charles Bend Hospital. This opportunity is ideal for board-certified or board-eligible Pediatricians who enjoy caring for hospitalized children in a collaborative, family-centered environment and are seeking flexibility in their schedule.

The Pediatric Hospitalist examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions; develops treatment plans and manages patient health issues in accordance with established protocols; uses current evidence-based guidelines in creating diagnostic and treatment plans; provides compassionate care which addresses social determinants of health; and maintains accurate electronic health records and timely documentation.

Scope of Work

The Pediatric Hospitalist will:

• Provide inpatient pediatric hospitalist coverage for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents admitted to St. Charles Bend Hospital.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic pediatric conditions utilizing evidence-based clinical practices.
• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations including medical, surgical, developmental, psychosocial, and family histories.
• Coordinate admissions, consultations, transfers, and discharges.
• Collaborate with primary care providers, specialists, nursing staff, care management, and ancillary services to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Request specialty consultations as needed and participate in collaborative treatment planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and discharge planning.
• Provide newborn care
• Participate in emergency pediatric evaluations and stabilization when necessary.
• Complete all required documentation in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.
• Support quality, safety, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and health system requirements.

Schedule and Call Expectations

• Coverage is provided through a combination of day, swing, and night shifts.
• Day shifts are generally ten (10) hours in duration.
• Weekday swing shifts are generally six (6) hours in duration.
• Night coverage includes a minimum of six (6) onsite hours and eight (8) hours of off-site call coverage, with an average of 8-9 hours on-site each night.
• Offsite call physicians must be available to return to the hospital for admissions, urgent patient care needs, or other clinical emergencies as needed with a 20-minute or less response time.
• Scheduling is flexible and based on departmental coverage needs and contractor availability.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
• Successful completion of an accredited Pediatrics residency or combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics
• Active Oregon medical license or ability to obtain Oregon licensure
• Active, unrestricted DEA registration
• PALS certification
• NRP certification
• Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other governmental healthcare programs
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet health system driving requirements
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently within a hospital-based practice

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of pediatric inpatient experience
• Fellowship training or Board Certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine
• Experience utilizing Epic electronic medical records
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
• Experience working in rural or community hospital settings
