Job Description

Position Summary: Operates and coordinates combined radio communications for police, fire, and animal services. Duties include operation of 9-1-1 computer-aided dispatch, NCIC/MULES/REJIS systems, cause response and emergency preparedness weather warning sirens, TDD-TTY {hearing impaired phone) and 24-hour recorder as required. Maintains all procedures manuals, directories and maps and performs related duties. Must be able to multi-task and react to high stress situations. In addition to contact with Police, Fire, and Animal Services staff, the position interacts with Codes, other City departments, and Ambulance Personnel as well as citizens and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to type at least 35 words-per-minute. Successful completion of training program, including the completion of required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Physical Demands: Able to sit for extended periods; stoop, bend and reach for files and shelves. Visual ability sufficient to read and write reports, correspondence, etc. Hearing ability sufficient to understand radio transmissions, conversations with individuals in person and over a phone. Speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively with individuals in person, over a phone or radio. Prolonged periods of emotionally stressful activity requiring handling of multiple tasks simultaneously.
Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed inside, sitting at radio console in a confined area with several employees at a time. Must be available for shift work and weekends.
