Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Provide end‑to‑end leadership for Photonics Connectivity Solutions (PCS) mass‑production programs, ensuring predictable execution from technology readiness through volume ramp, while aligning engineering, supply chain, contract manufacturing, and business objectives in a fast‑scaling new business.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Ownership & Delivery

  • Own end‑to‑end execution of PCS production program for selected customer from manufacturing readiness through volume ramp and sustained production.
  • Establish and maintain the integrated master production plan, including milestones, dependencies, and critical path.
  • Ensure on‑time, on‑volume delivery aligned with business commitments.

2. Cross‑Functional Integration

  • Integrate technology development, manufacturing readiness, supply chain capability, and ramp schedules into a single execution framework.
  • Act as the primary technical and operational interface between:
    • Supply Chain
    • Contract Manufacturers (CMs)
    • Engineering and Technology teams
    • Business and Product Management

3. Manufacturing Readiness & Ramp Governance

  • Ensure readiness across process capability, capacity, yield, quality, and supply continuity prior to volume release.
  • Drive disciplined ramp execution with clear entry/exit criteria and escalation paths.

4. Customer Interface & Program Alignment

  • Act as the primary interface to key customers for all integration and production ramp topics
  • Translate customer requirements, demand signals, and technical expectations into aligned manufacturing and engineering execution plans
  • Lead regular customer program reviews, ensuring transparent communication on status, risks, and mitigation plans
  • Drive resolution of customer-facing issues related to yield, capacity, readiness, and ramp performance
  • Build strong working relationships with customer program and technical teams to enable fast decision-making and alignment
  • Ensure customer priorities are clearly reflected in internal plans, trade-offs, and execution focus

5. Risk & Change Management

  • Identify, assess, and actively manage cross‑functional risks (technical, supply, capacity, yield, schedule).
  • Own mitigation plans and executive‑level visibility of risk exposure and trade‑offs.
  • Coordinate and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECN/ECO) and their impact on production, cost, schedule, and inventory.

6 Execution Transparency & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Lead regular cross‑functional execution reviews, providing clear status, risks, and recovery actions.
  • Ensure alignment across functions through structured communication, decision clarity, and data‑driven reporting.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and drive timely resolution.

7 Operations Strategy Enablement

  • Support definition of the PCS operations strategy for the selected customer, including make/buy, capacity scaling, and manufacturing footprint considerations.
  • Ensure strategy is translated into executable plans and consistently implemented.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor of Science (Engineering or applied science)
  • Lean Fundamentals
  • Lead project teams with clear and significant, demonstrable financial impact
  • Demonstrated ability to permanently solve difficult manufacturing issues (crises or chronic)
  • Lead new process/ product/ innovation project(s)
  • Knowledge sharing across division - e.g. core technologist
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and drivers
  • Experience working with mentor(s) with technical expertise in different technical areas and key stakeholders
