Job Description

The PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) Lead Instructor is both an experienced classroom instructor and peer mentor. PBLA Leads provide instructional leadership to ensure the consistent, effective implementation of PBLA within the LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada)
Program. This role supports teaching excellence, instructor development, and learner success by ensuring that assessment and instruction are aligned with PBLA principles and program requirements.

This position includes 15 hours per week of online, synchronous classroom instruction, delivered Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The role also includes 5 hours per week as a PBLA Lead Instructor and requires onsite and remote work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

PBLA Lead Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the implementation and ongoing improvement of PBLA across the program
  • Coach, mentor, and provide professional development to instructors on PBLA practices, assessment, and instructional planning
  • Monitor and promote consistency, quality, and compliance with PBLA standards and funder requirements
  • Collaborate with program leadership to develop instructional resources, address program needs, and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Serve as the primary PBLA resource and liaison for instructors, helping resolve instructional and assessment-related questions

Classroom Instruction

  • Create and deliver engaging and meaningful daily lessons aligned with the Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Provide client-centered, trauma-informed support to newcomer adults

    Assess learner progress and performance using Portfolio Based Language Instruction principles and guidelines
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments with learners, support learners in setting goals, and conduct one-on-one interviews to provide feedback on learner progress
  • Integrate digital resources and utilize online learning platforms, such as Zoom and Google Classroom, to deliver instruction and support student learning
  • Document student progress, prepare progress reports and conduct regular feedback meetings

Administration

  • Maintain accurate records to track attendance, portfolio artifacts, and other documentation as required
  • Work collaboratively with other LINC team members to plan, develop, and share resources
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings, professional development sessions, and other activities as required
  • Provide input to the LINC Program Administration Team regarding student issues, policies, resources, and other matters that affect program delivery
