Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Payroll, the Payroll Technician will use their detail-oriented, analytical skills to maintain accounts and processes payroll related accounting paperwork. In this role, the Payroll Technician will audit and reconcile payroll data for quarterly tax, benefit deductions, garnishments, payroll data to GL reports accuracy, assist payroll department on complex transactions and ensure the overall integrity of the payroll data. Must also maintain a strict level of confidentiality and act in a manner consistent with all legal and regulatory requirements and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Payroll Technician will also support system upgrades, patches, testing and other projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists department staff, employees, and manager with complex issues or inquiries related to Workday payroll database as needed.
2. Works with Payroll Support Manager as a team member and subject matter expert in processing payroll by administering and ensuring the overall integrity of the payroll data in Workday by reconciling payroll data and documents for inefficiencies, errors, and completeness.
3. Assists with project oversight from design through implementation to ensure project is completed in a timely manner, as well as communicating progress updates to senior management and providing recommendations for process enhancements.
4. Audits payroll data to correct quarterly taxes to ensure correct quarterly tax filing and W2 reporting and communicates with employees affected by the correction, if applicable.
5. Performs payroll processing functions including, but not limited to, reviewing time data entry for accuracy, reviewing manual deductions and retroactive hours, and loading electronic files.
6. Performs routine data audits to analyze and address calculation issues earnings or deductions codes.
7. Assists with the accurate reconciliation and ensure that all payments are made for 401K, Deferred Comp, Pension.
8. Leads and conducts end-user training on payroll system(s) and report writing, serving as the liaison between departments and external vendors to provide systems support to leverage technology solutions.
9. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree related to Payroll, , Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent relevant work experience required.

  • Minimum three (3) years of pertinent experience with related payroll and time tracking systems required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Specific knowledge of Workday Payroll and Time Tracking modules is a must.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft (Word and Excel)

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure and job ambiguity.

  • This position requires an individual with highly developed maturity and impeccable communication skills.

  • Must be personable and professional, capable of using caution and discretion in communication.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • No Driving Responsibilities: Role does not require a driver’s license or insurance.

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.

  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.

  • Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.

  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.

  • Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.

  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.

  • Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.

  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.

  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.

  • The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
