The Payroll Tax Rep II – Notices (Level 2) is responsible for researching, analyzing, and resolving payroll tax notices across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role handles standard to moderately complex cases independently and performs detailed reconciliations to ensure compliance and accuracy.

The Payroll Tax Rep II role builds on foundational tax knowledge and requires the ability to interact with tax agencies, manage case portfolios, and contribute to timely resolution while meeting service level agreements. This position plays a key role in supporting operational efficiency and minimizing customer liability exposure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, and resolve payroll tax notices for multi-state tax entities within defined service level agreements.
• Handle standard to moderately complex cases with increasing independence.
• Independently review and resolve moderate-complexity tax notices.
• Identify discrepancies related to filings, payments, tax rates, and account setup.
• Apply corrective actions to resolve notices and minimize penalties and interest.
• Conduct research to determine notice cause and next steps.
• Prepare detailed written responses.
• Identify trends or recurring issues.
• Mentor and support Payroll Tax Rep I team members.
• Maintain accurate documentation.
• Perform QTD and YTD reconciliation of wages and tax amounts (withheld, reported, and deposited).
• Analyze tax wage detail reports and tax filings to identify and resolve variances.
• Support amendment and adjustment activities as part of resolution.
• Ensure a payment record is created for any amount due notices.
• Communicate with tax agencies to research issues and resolve discrepancies.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of TPA and POA processes.
• Provide assistance to business units on payroll tax-related inquiries.
• Escalate high-complexity issues to senior team members when required.

Required Qualifications

Experience
• 2–4 years of experience in payroll tax, payroll processing, or compliance-related roles.
• Experience handling payroll tax notices and basic reconciliations.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple notice cases while meeting SLA.
• Exposure to multi-state tax environments preferred.
• Experience using Salesforce or similar case management systems.
• Experience interacting with tax agencies.
