Job Description

About Us

Ocado Group is a global technology leader reinventing retail through AI and Robotic Engineering. While our technology powers the world’s most advanced fulfilment centres, our people drive our international growth.

We are now launching a new Global Shared Service Centre in Sofia. This hub is the strategic heart of our international finance and people operations and we are looking for Payroll Specialists to join our growing team.

The Opportunity

As our Payroll Specialist, you’ll own one of the most critical parts of our employee experience - making sure every person, everywhere, is paid accurately and on time. You’ll step into a fast-paced environment where you take ownership of the end-to-end payroll process across multiple countries, acting as a trusted expert for internal teams and the main point of contact for our external payroll providers.

This specific role is a crucial addition to our team, focusing closely on our growing operations in Australia. From our new Sofia hub, you’ll help us simplify and connect the way we work - building a more streamlined and effective global payroll operation. To set you up for success and truly embed you into our regional frameworks, this role will require occasional travel to Australia.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with complexity, feels confident navigating the nuances of Australian payroll legislation and wants to bridge global standards with local requirements. If you’re motivated by impact and enjoy working in a growing international environment, this is a great opportunity to contribute to scaling a high-performing global operation.

Requirements

In this role, you will take ownership of the monthly payroll cycle, gathering and validating complex data inputs and outputs to ensure 100% accuracy.

You will:

  • Manage End-to-End Cycles: Oversee all steps of the payroll process for your assigned regions (with a focus on Australia), ensuring every deadline in the payroll calendar is met.
  • Collaborate Globally: Partner with Finance, Legal and People teams, as well as external vendors, to resolve discrepancies and streamline operations.
  • Drive Excellence: Provide high-quality support to international employees regarding their payroll queries and contribute to the creation of management information reports.
  • Maintain Integrity: Protect sensitive employee information with the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience: 2-3 years managing global or multi-country payroll. Within a Shared Services (SSC) or GBS environment is a plus. Dedicated experience handling Australian payroll operations (knowledge of superannuation, tax scales and Australian labor standards) is an advantage.
  • Travel Flexibility: Ability and willingness to travel to Australia for onboarding, training and collaboration.
  • Vendor Management: Experience working with external payroll providers and adhering to strict legislative criteria.
  • Technical Savvy: Proficiency in HR and Finance systems - experience with Workday, ADP or Deel is a significant advantage, alongside advanced Excel skills.
  • Language & Communication: Fluent English (written and oral) with the ability to interact effectively with internal customers and stakeholders via phone, email and chat.
  • Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail, a positive approach to change and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education: A University degree in Human Resources, Finance or a related field.

Why you should join us

Sofia is the cornerstone of our global operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where your work directly impacts the stability and growth of our international teams.

What We Offer You:

  • Hybrid office attendance policy that sees you onsite 60% of your time
  • 30 days of “Work from anywhere” program
  • 25 days of annual leave
  • 100 EUR monthly for food vouchers
  • 50 EUR social allowance paid with your monthly salary
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave policy
  • Medical plan including health & dental coverage
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Employee assistance program
